Orange peel tea is a tasty tea you can make to change your mood. The tangy flavors of the tea will burst in your mouth long after having it. You can make the simple orange tea into a tea of your choice by adding green or black tea or milk chai. The tea has a refreshing taste but I like it occasionally only for a change in the evening. Children definitely like it. To make orange peel tea choose fresh organic oranges with thin peel.

Benefits of Orange peel

We all know that the flavors and vitamin of orange are more in peel than in juice. Then? Does it make sense throwing all those vitamin in garbage. Of course not. Orange peel has 60 different types of flavonoid and 170 types of phyto nutrients apart from being rich in vitamins, minerals, pectin and fibers. Historically Chinese people had been using Orange tea for medicinal purpose since long time.  Here are few major benefits.

How to make orange peel tea

Recipe time: 20 minutes | Recipe type:herbal tea, dairy free| Serving: 2 Cup

Ingredients

  • 1/2 peel of an orange or 2 tbs (I used kennow orange)
  • 2 and 1/2 cups water, 250 ml
  • 2 green cardamom(choti elachi)
  • 2 cloves (laung)
  • 2 inch cinnamon , broken in chips ( dal cheeni)
  • 1 tbsp honey or sugar (cheeni)

Method:

  1. Choose brightest, freshest orange for peel. Remove any spot or marked areas.
  2. Thinly slice the peel.
  3. Bring water to boil and add all spices and orange peel. Simmer for 1-2 minutes until water color changes.
  4. Add sweetener of your choice.
  5. Turn off heat and cover. Let the tea sit for 15 minutes. For stronger taste leave it up to one hour.
  6. Reheat, strain and serve.

Variations

  • After reheat you can add 1 teaspoon green tea leaves or 2 teabag  to make orange peel green tea.
  • Or you can add 1 teaspoon black tea or 2 teabag to make orange peel black tea.
  • You can also add more spices of your choice ( 8 coriander seeds, 1/2 star anise and 4 pepper) to make spicy orange peel masala chai.
  • 1/2 tbs ginger can also be added tomake orange peel ginger tea.

I like it best by adding green tea as adding many strong spices over powers orange flavor. Orange peel chai is also very yummy.

  • 1/2 cup milk (doodh)
  • 1 and 1/2 tbsp sugar (cheeni)

Method:

  1. Bring water to boil and add all spices and orange peel. Simmer for 1-2 minutes until water color changes.
  2. Add sweetener of your choice.
  3. Turn off heat and cover. Let the tea sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Add black tea and bring tea to boil again and then add milk.
  5. Simmer for a minute.
  6. Reheat, strain and serve.

Boil water.

Add orange peels and spices.

Boil for 2 minutes. Add honey or sugar or any other sweetener.

For orange peel black tea after steeping add black tea and boil for 60 secs.orange-peel-tea

For orange peel chai, add milk in black tea and boil for more 30 secs. Strain and serve hot.orange-peel-chai-1

How to store orange peels.

  • You can sun dry orange peels.
  • you can also oven dry on lowest setting till edges of peel are slightly dry.
  • Or you can slice orange peels and leave them on the counter to dry naturally.
  • Never store fresh peel in fridge, always store on room temperature.
